Ongoing BITE PAIN 8 mos. after root canal & crown

8 months ago, I got a root canal and crown on a back, bottom tooth.  Ever since, I have had pain on that tooth whenever I bite on it.  I had no pain prior to this. It does not hurt w/ hot and cold, only biting.  Been back to both endodontist and dentist re: problem.  Both thought maybe a bite/grinding issue; both filed/adjusted crown a bit.  Took x-rays.  Both said was not infected (that you could tell by xrays).  Filing tooth has not helped.  Bite guard has not helped.  Truly don't think I'm a grinder anyway.  Looking for additional opinions.  

Have read that bite could be caused by crack in underlying tooth.  Endodontist said there was no crack in the tooth when he did root canal.  However, after root canal, when went to dentist to get permanent crown, dental assistant spent 20 minutes pulling, trying to get temp crown off.  They finally had to drill it in half to get it off, and she then put on permanent.  Am wondering if she could have cracked underlying tooth during all this, and being just the assistant, wasn't aware of what she did?  Am told the only way one can see whether tooth is cracked is by either removing the crown of some super high-tech equip (NOT x-ray) that can see underneath the crown--equip which neither of my dental pros have.  Don't know what equip is called.

Anyone have any insight as to anything else that could be causing the pain, and/or what to do about it?  The Pros said to wait, some teeth take longer to heal, but after 8 mos. of ongoing pain, am beyond done with waiting.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank-you!

Hi, Maybe you should have the crown adjusted a little more,if the crown is just a little high that could be making it hurt,usually when a tooth needs more adjusting -it hurts when you bite down.When a tooth is cracked you have intermittant pain-not nessessarily when biting down.Hope this helps and good luck-you could always get a second opinion.

thanks so much for the insight!  it's been filed down and "adjusted" by both dentist and endodontist--but maybe whole thing needs to be removed and refitted?  going to check w/ dentist, and get 2nd opinion.  thank-you, again!
