PAINFUL ANESTHETIC !!

My old gold crown was loose; I went to my dentist (he's over 70) to have it glued back. He used some sort of "pain killer" before removing the crown that was VERY painful, burned like mad, dripped down onto my bottom gums and
stung them also. What was the name of this medication? He became quite angry when I told him it really was hurting.
Next time I'll finish removing crowns myself.
