Pain After Root Canal

On 7/10/06 started root canal, was told to call back in two weeks to finish, went back on 7/26 was still having pain and was put on Cephalexin 500mg and told to come back on 8/03 to finish root canal.  Went back on 8/03, still had pain in tooth, dentist finished root canal and gave me another prescription for another 10 days of Cephalexin 500mg. Today is the 10th day of taking the antibiotic, (still have another 10 days to go)however, this is the second day after finishing the root canal, and the tooth is WORSE than it was 2 days ago.  As soon as the numbness went away after leaving the dentist office, I was in severe pain, the dentist gave me Loratab to take for pain.  The tooth hurts when I put my teeth together, the pain is WORSE than it was when I originally went in July. This tooth is on the top, have 2 molars behind it. (This tooth was originally filled in April 2006, after that filling the tooth was sensitive to pressure, thats when I made app. in July to have the tooth looked at.)  The dentist said that this tooth should only have 1 root, he has taken 3 different xrays to make sure there isn't another root, he still can only see 1 root. I realize the infection is getting worse and the antibiotic is not helping, what is your advise and what is the next procedure?

In Feb. 2006 I had two root canals done on my two front teeth and had crowns put on them.  I felt fine after the root canal and even when the temporary crowns were on but two weeks after the permanent crowns were placed on I started have discomfort.  I have gone back to the dentist several times and he insist that everything looks good.  I am very uncomfortable.  My teeth don't hurt when I bite down they only hurt when they are distrubed from the front or the back of the teeth like with my tongue or my upper lip.  I also have some discomfort up in the gum where root of the teeth are.  The endo. said I had extremly long teeth.  Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi I am experiencing the same thing.  Only this is a tooth I had a root canal done years ago and was told by a endodontist that I needed to have another root canal on the same tooth.  I had absolutely no pain in this tooth but went ahead 5 days ago and started the root canal.  Well after the first treatment on the tooth I am in horrible pain.  I have been taking antibotics and motrin and tylenol since but the pain has not subsided.  My question to you is have you had any relief since your treatment?  I still have to go back in about a week to complete the treatment and am terrified to have it done.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
My suggestion is that you get to see an endodontist asap. You should not be feeling the tooth when you bring your teeth together and I think that you have been on the antibiotics for too long a period.
