Pain after crown

Pain after crown

I had a crown placed on my lower left back molar 6 weeks ago. Ever since my dentist started the prep for this crown I have experienced quite a bit of pain in this tooth. I now think the nerve is inflammed as I have intermittent sharp pains and have pain after eating on it as well. It isn't at the continual throbbing stage that I am familiar with, having had root canal therapy on several teeth before. I saw my dentist the other day and she didn't think anything was wrong as it didn't hurt on tapping with an instrument and its not hot and cold sensitive. Should I now just wait until it reaches that stage before going back to my dentist?

It sounds like the nerve is starting to have problems and will probably need a root canal.  If the nerve hasn't settled down in about 6 weeks after the crown was placed, the nerve is usually diagnosed as an irreversible pulpitis and root canal treatment is recommended.
