Pain after permanent crown

Pain after permanent crown

Hi Doctor,
I had my permanent crown installed on 18th Dec. on tooth no. 14. I still have severe pain. I went to my GP and she ruled out infection after blood test result. I went back my dentist for this complaint on Jan 1,2009. He checked the bit and said that  everything seems OK. He told me to take 400 mg of motrin three times a day. I get very bad constipation. I am still taking twice a day 400mg of motrin.I get pain even if try to take a bit on soft material such as slice of cucumber. I even feel hot and cold on that tooth.
Please tell is normal for the pain to persist for so long. I have had  two more tooth crowned before and I did not experience this kind problem.

If tooth #14was asymptomatic before crown delivery, possible cause of your present complaint is probably occlusal interference of new restoration. Introduction of occlusal interference of posterior crown is common. Masterful skill to detect occlusal interference is essential. 100% comfort upon biting is achievable if occlusal adjustment is properly performed.

Hi  I had a crown on number 19 put on and it has been 7 months, it is still bothering me also.  I went back to the dentist 4 times and he states there isn't anything wrong with it and that it would pass the dental board.  It feels like it keeps sinking deeper yet into my gums.  It gets irritated when I eat.

I am debating whether or not to contact the dental board and put in a complaint.

I don't understand how a crown could hurt for 7 months and nothing be wrong with it.

Now in your case, you just had your put on, I know for sure it has something to do with like scottma stated because this is what I kept telling my dentist, that it is too hight and feels bulky in my mouth.

Good Luck I'm still trying to solve my situation.  And looking for a Prosthodontist isn't easy, especially in my area. Statute of limitations for me is 1 year, I don't know what state you are in, so I don't know what your statute of limitations are. But from what another dentist told me when I called him is that a crown should not hurt any longer than 6 -8 weeks.
