Pain after procedure

Happy New year to all

I had my second root canal on a tooth that had pain that was not resolved.  I never had an infection only sensitivity.  So the first root canal seemed to not take, I still had hot cold sensations.  He just went back in for a second root canal on the same tooth.  Now dont feel hot and cold but cannot bite down on tooth very pressure sensitive.  He is a very reputable endo and I have faith in him - but I get the feeling this tooth is goign to be trouble.

Question:  Is it normal to have discomfort when trying to eat on a tooth after it been worked on(its apparently packed with medication - what type I dont know)?

If it is normal how long does this last or do you have to get the medication stuff outbefore it feels better
Thanks so much

It is not unusual to have sensitivity to biting after RCT. The tooth has to be adjusted so that you do not touch it(taken out of occlusion) when you normally bring your teeth together. If this is not the case then return to the dentist and get it adjusted. I would also think that you would want that tooth restored as soon as possible after the soreness dissipates so that you don't take the chance of the tooth fracturing.

it happens often. the ligament around the tooth can get inflamed from the procedure, so when you bite on it , the tooth hurts. make sure that you cannot touch this tooth with the opposing tooth when you close your mouth with no food. if you can, the dentist needs to reduce the tooth ever so slightly so you cannot hit it when you bite. this will help thing calm down. it is also possible the tooth has a fracture but I would not jump to that just yet. ask the endo who did it.
