Pain after temp filling

Hi,
There was a small lump near 36 and I went to the dentist. He mentioned there is a cracked tooth and due to which infection is there and also the nerve has died. He suggested temp filling to remove the bacteria and then fill it temporary to see how it holds. It did not pain much during the procedure. However the pain was there during the 1st night and more on the next day. I took paracetamol but it was ok only for 2 hours. Wanted to check if this normal and how long the pain last? And when should I check my dentist?? Please advice

If the crack extends to root, the tooth is probably hopeless, extraction is warranted.
