Pain after white filling

I had to have two white fillings re-done because of leakage, one molar on the top, one molar on the bottom.  The top one was very sensitive to cold and it had a constant throbbing pain that would wake me up at night if I didn't take any asprin for it.  My dentist sent me to have it evaluated for a root canal and I didn't end up needing one and  the pain eventually faded away after 2 weeks or so.

The bottom one, however is also very painful, but in a different sort of way.  It is very tender when I clench my teeth together, but when I chew something, or tap my teeth, it sends a severe sharp pain through the tooth and it is always constantly in pain if I don't take asprin.  I went back to my dentist twice, he said it wasn't infected and that I needed to go back to the root canal guy.  It was a deeper filling, but not that deep, so why would I need a root canal?  I think he doesn't want to deal with me anymore but my tooth really really hurts!  He put me on antibiotics, but it hasn't affected anything.  Any advice??

Has your dentist adjusted the filling? If there was too much material applied, and your bite is off, it can cause a lot of the symptoms you are describing.

hello, I think im going through the same thing, have you found anything out?  I had my silver fillings redone to compostie and my top ones hurt something terrible my dentist said I might need a root canal since while he was working it started to bleed and there was a cavity under my old filling, but to wait a week and gave antibiotics incase of infection.  But it feels like my right side of face is cut open and throbbing and i took a Vicodin and it still hurts... almost like my tooth wants to fall out sorry so long, but curious if you ended having to get a root canal thank you
