Pain in Jaw after Dentist

Pain in Jaw after Dentist

I had a silver filling done on my far back left molar. A shot was given to me to numb any pain, but afterwards when the numbness wore off I had sore pain in that area. I figured it was common and would eventually heal, but it's been 8 days and the pain got worse; whenever I open my mouth (not even wide)there is a VERY sharp pain in the jaw area and there are no signs of swelling either. I'm a bit nervous, but am I making a big deal of something common that will heal over time, or should I see a doctor? Or if you know..what is the cause of this?

It sounds like you have trismus--this can be caused by the injection or having your mouth open for a rather long time. I would consult the dentist--you can get a muscle relaxant or you might have to consider stretching your jaw open a small amount each day. You can use tongue blades and increase the amount each day to place between your teeth.Either way I think it will resolve in a short period of time.
