Pain in other teeth after operation on another.

I had an tiny abscess so deep in the root of my tooth (1st molar at the top closest to the front) that after trying to get to it via the normal rout i.e. through the part of the tooth that shows, they had to split my gum and go into it directly through the root and fill it that way after cleaning out the infection. It required four stitches - the split in my gum was around three inches long which I found a little severe for one tooth root.
The stitches have now almost totally dissolved after a week and a half - I think a little too soon as it's still quite sore a rather open looking, but now I'm getting severe, lingering, stabbing pains in the roots of surrounding teeth! There is absolutely no sign of infection or swelling, it's just extremely painful and the pain comes and goes mostly without rhyme or reason and then leaves the teeth throbbing when it subsides. I am wondering wether the treatment of the original tooth may have involved severing or disrupting nerves and/or roots of other teeth as the slit they made is so long and spans across the roots of all 5 of the teeth that now hurt.
Any ideas?

Going back to your dentist to have a follow  up exam is advised. If there is no pathology identified , seeing an orofacial pain specialist is advised.

It's 2 1/2 weeks since the proceedure. It was a little sore to begin with obviously and i took a few ibruprofen - that simple kind of soreness has gone as the wound has healed. What I am writing about is a totally different kind of pain occurring on and off for no apparent reason underneath the incision area and extending into my teeth leaving the teeth throbbing.

It appears that you went through periapical surgery and retrograde filling. The incision extending  anteriorly and posteriorly is normaland necessary in order to relieve tissue tension and gain surgical access. Post -op pain may last a couple of days. Pain killer is  generally effective for post-op pain.
