Pain in teeth, Jaw & Ear

My jaw has popped for several years now which has not bothered me to much other than the annoyance of it, However several months ago I started having pain in my teeth and jaw. I saw two dentist who took X-rays and explained it could be from grinding my teeth at night. They assured me that everything else looked fine. Since then, the pain has gotten worse and comes more often. I have been taking pain relievers everyday now, and sometimes more than once a day. The pain now also goes into my ear. After another visit to the dentist and another X-ray, I was given a night guard. I have been wearing it for almost a week, and see no changes. I was told if this dosen't work I will have to get a root canal which my insurance will not cover. I would be willing to pay out of pocket if I new a root canel would correct this problem, but am afaid that it will not. Any suggestions would be great.

It's possible it could be in need of a root canal,but it's strange that the x rays didnt show any infections or anything.Ive had two root canals and I still remeber the severe pain of the first.I couldn't move,I had to keep my head down all the time.And I took lots of pain medicine everyday till I got it fixed.

My cousin has the same problem you do,with her jaw popping. They told her it was from grinding her teeth as well.BUt they also said she may need braces or soemthing like that.

Hopefully your probloem will be solved soon.

I have experienced the same problems you explained. My dentist explained to me that I had TMJ syndrome. It causes discomfort in the jaw and the pain is right infront of the ear.

Ask your dentist about a 'biteplate'
