Here is the deal. Last year I had work done on the 1st molar bottom right. It was never quite right, always cold sensitive and if I bit down hard on it, it would occasionally hurt.
Well, last week it was real bad. I went back to my butcher..I mean dentist...and he said it was either cracked or needed a root canal.
On 2/14 he drilled it down and put on a temp crown, saying it was a crack, but a deep one, and if it still hurt after this, I would need a root canal. Well, it was fine for 2 1/2 days, then the pain started - it feels like the pain is deep in the gums. It usually comes on after a meal, and it hurts like a mother...Oddly enough, cool water swished around the tooth immediately relieves the pain.
Just a reminder root canal doe not always work and a majority of the time you need to get a another one 3-5 years later. Root canal can also cause more probelms than you know. When getting root canal people seem to think that it kills the nerveNerve biopsy Nerve conduction velocity but no it doesn't it kills the kills the tooth the nerveNerve biopsy Nerve conduction velocity if it killed the nerveNerve biopsy Nerve conduction velocity you would not have no pain and after the root canal you have alot of pain. The Americal Dental Association did an article a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys over a year ago stating that most of the root canals that are done are not needed and what ever the problem may be with the nerveNerve biopsy Nerve conduction velocity a majority of the times antiobiotics cures it. In the article it also stated that in order to get an effective diagnosis as to wheter or or not a person needs root canal a nerve test should be done because an xray is really in-conclusive and that most dentist will insist on doing root canal because it cost more money than just getting the tooth extratced.
I had the same problem where root canal where the Dentist insisted I needed root canal and when I went to another Dentist he did the nerve test and said that root canal was not needed but however the molar did need to come and once the molar is out I will never have to worry about the tooth or the nerve ever again.
I suggest that you just get the molar extratced. Even though we need our molars to chew our food getting it extratced is the best thing to do because youw will never a another problem with the tooth or the nerve again
Dear STBSTB:
The development of cold sensitivity after a new restoration is commonly caused by
occlusal interferrnce. Coronal fracture of tooth structure may be detected by visual examination. Vertical root fracture may not be detected by x-ray in the early stage.
The treatment is based on correct diagnosis.Extraction certainly is not a good option unless the tooth is hopeless. Root canal treatment yields more than 95% success rate if it is done optimally. You need to ask your dentist to check out the occlusion of temporary crown. Temporary crown is the prediction of what we can foresee the end result. If everything goes well with the temp, final crown generally will be fine. If problem occurs during temp stage, it must be found out the source of problem. Do'nt expect the final crown will solve the problem. Good luck.
