Periodontal Disease & Bad Breath

I am 28 and was diagnosed with periodontal disease.  Prior to that I did not go to the dentist except on ocassion because I had no insurance.  I experienced minor bleeding gums but that was the extent of the problem.  About three years ago, I started experiencing foul breath.  Brushing and mouthwash did not help.  Because I was a student, I was able to qualify sliding scale fee at the local state dental clinic.  Root planing and scaling was done, however, the condition did not improve.  Finally, I was told I need to have the surgery.  I recently completed full mouth surgery of the 4 quads.  Although, there is a difference, I still notice it.  I have been reading online there is no cure for the disease.  Compared to the pictures I have seen online with my mouth, I dont think my mouth looks that bad.  However, I am wondering if I am still experiencing foul breath because the gums are not fully healed? Or because I have the disease, I am destined to live like this.   Please let me know what I should do.  I dont want to undergo surgery again, and although I used the periodex after the surgery, the symptoms are still  there.  I know there are other causes for foul breath, but in my situation, the smell is coming from my mouth as it is localized and I still have a bitter and salty taste in my mouth.

The common cause of halitosis is periodontal disease and cavity. Periodontal disease can be cured. However, meticulous mainteinace program is extremely important to prevent recurrence of periodontal disease.
