Periodontal Disease- and I floss every single night!

Periodontal Disease- and I floss every single night!

I just went to the dentist  (a new one because of insurance change) and I was told they could not clean my teeth because I have a very bad case of periodontal disease.  They said  I would have to go to a Periodontist for deep cleaning.  My lower teeth (the center bottom four teeth)- the gums are receding so bad they are loose and hurt real bad.  Last year I got a bump on my gum right in front of these teeth.  I went to an Oral Surgeon for evaluation and he just gave me a rinse and said unless he removed it, they wouldn't know what it was.

I have ALWAYS flossed every single night since 2001 (I got a bridge then and was told I HAD to floss every night- so I  did.

Everywhere I read it all says the main reason for periodontal problems is bad dental hygiene.  There must be something else that can cause this.  Both my parents had false teeth.  But back then they did not have any kind of dental help like I did.  I went in 2x a year for cleanings etc.  Brushed regularly...I thought I did everything.

I don't even sodas.  Only water, coffee & tea w/ Splenda. No sugar.  WTF.

And I do not use meth either!  Or Crack or those other drugs.

My bottom teeth really hurt--when I first called the Periodontist, they couldn't get me in until July 2nd.  Then I called back today and told of the pain--they are getting me in next Wednesday for a consult.

I have no idea to expect..but a friend of mine said she had this on the same teeth and had all the deep cleaning done- spent thousands...only to have the teeth removed and now she has a bridge.

My question is:  If I get a bridge on the lower teeth, how long do I have to wait to get the bridge after the teeth are removed?  And while I am waiting for this to heal, will they give me a temporary bridge or something there?

If periodontally involved teeth are hopeless, a provisional bridge can be delivered right after extraction. However, a comprehensive evaluation and treatment plan should be implemented in the first visit. There are always treatment options, and each option has advantages and disadvantags. Your dentist is supposed to present to you thoroughly.

Thank you.  I noticed in your profile you specialize in TMJ.  I am a teeth grinder too.  I do wear a night guard and I can tell I still grind pretty bad.  Do you think that grinding teeth can cause the lower teeth to become loose and cause periodantal disease - or receding gums?
