Permanent crown pain (I think)

Permanent crown pain (I think)

In July of 2009 I had a permanent crown placed on an upper right molar.  In the last month or so I have been experiencing pain in the area.  I believe I have a cavity next to the crown that is going to be filled in the next couples weeks.  Is it possible to experience pain this long after having a crown put on or is the pain from the cavity next door?  I did not have a rood canal so I don't want to mention anything to my dentist and be forced into one if it's not really necessary.

You should mention it to your dentist so you can figure out whats causing the pain.  Its possible to need a root canal after a crown is placed.  It may be due to a new cavity forming underneath the crown or a degeneration of the pulp that has occurred gradually over time.

Your dentist may decide to just do the filling first and then see how the area responds prior to doing any treatment on the crown.
