Porcelain veneers...

I was curious about getting porcelain veneers...what are some important considerations that one should take into account before going for the plunge and forking over $1000 a tooth?

They are beautiful restorations but you must be aware that the teeth are shaved and that the teeth are altered forever. I do not know the reason for the laminates so I could not give you an idea if these are the correct restorations for you. the laminates can last for many years but eventually they will need to be redone at some point. That is the nature of materials that are placed in ones mouth.

I would be sure to find out the experience of the dentist placing them.  Ask to view some previous case photos and the results.  See if they can do a computer mock up so that you might be able to see the final result before proceeding.  If you have any grinding habits, ensure that you address that issue in order to prevent fractures.
