Post-Filling Pain and Scary Receptionist Pain!

Post-Filling Pain and Scary Receptionist Pain!

In November of 2008 I had some gum pain due to a weird gap near my silver filling (back left molar, up top) and the dentist I see suggested closing the gap with an improved filling. Yay! He would also fill the other cavity on the same tooth, as a preventative measure.

Unbeknownst to me, he used a white filling this time, and lasered off some of the irritated gum. I now suffer from no gum pain whatsoever, but I have been taking Tylenol, Ibuprofin, and now Aleve DAILY just to make the dull tooth pain go away! It is on both my upper and lower jaw. There is extreme temperature senitivity on the tooth that he worked on. On top of that, I can still feel the extra cavity he told me he filled.

I am making another appointment to try and get the filling replaced with metal again. This poses a problem--HIS RECEPTIONIST IS A HAG. She is an older woman who seems, well, a bit racist. But the dentist is a really nice guy. I called several times to ask how long I would still be in pain, and she basically blew me off, saying that maybe I clenched my jaw at night, or that the filling was "high." She would practically hang up on me every time I called. I went in person to see the DENTIST and she intercepted. So now I will make an appointment. I am hopeful that I don't have to hear her mouth again. She told me that increased sensitivity due to different types of filling was "a lie." Uuurgh. So. Yeah.

I don;t have ANY sort of dental insurance or anything, so I am paying out of pocket for all of this. Will I have to pay for a replaced filling? Any advice would be SO helpful. Thank you!

First (and this is for anyone who reads this), if you have problems with one of the staff people in a dental office (like the front desk person), tell the dentist.  Sometimes we never know there is a problem unless a patient brings it up.  If the dentist is smart, he will really appreciate the information as its vital to the success of his office.

Chances are, the filling is high and needs to be reduced by the dentist.  That would be my first option.  If he does this and the pain does not go away in a week, then the filling might be leaking somewhere and needs to be replaced.  With only 2 months since it was put it, the dentist should NOT charge you for the replacement.
