Post-Implant Infection or Part of the Healing Process?

Post-Implant Infection or Part of the Healing Process?

Hi,

I got an implant placed two weeks ago where one of my lower molars used to be. I did this in another country, which I had to leave a week after getting the implant placed. So that's why it's a little hard getting back to the original dentist and checking with them.

The gum above and around the implant seems to be healing well, no pain or soreness whatsoever. The post-implant x-ray (6 days after) also revealed no infection around the implant. But one thing that concerns me is this 2-3 mm bump right on top of where the implant should be. Its color is normal, except for the tip which is whitish. The area feels soft to the touch of my tongue, but pressing on it does not produce any pain. I don't dare to poke the area with anything else other than my tongue, as I know I can do much more harm than good by prodding the tissue too much. So does this sound like a possible infection / gum abscess, or is it part of the normal healing process.

And yes, I do know not even the best-trained dentist can give me an answer without looking at it, but I just want a pointer as to whether it's time to make a dental appointment or if wait-and-see might be a better strategy. Thanks in advance!

Your descriptions suggest that normal gum tissue over healing cap of implant fixture.Optimal oral hygiene should be implemented after suture removal.
