Puss in mouth after dry sockets

by REDunn, Nov 06, 2009 10:48PM
I had my wisdom teeth removed 5 days ago. On the third day, I was in horrible pain due to dry sockets. I followed all the oral surgeon's instructions (which were the opposite of what I have read on multiple sites as to what the correct protocol is). Now my jaw pain is something I can at least deal with, but I have been running a fever and found puss and blood compacted between my jaw and cheek. I took the last of my z-pack today and am concerned. Should I be? Should I go back to the surgeon's office again. I don't get the sense that he is very concerned, but I also don't have a lot of confidence in him the more I read online. My wife seemed to know what to do (from when she had hers out 15 years ago), but I listened to the doctor. All the medical sites I've found have agreed with her instructions, not his. I'm never going to live this one down!

You may want to discuss your particular situation with your oral surgeon.  They should evaluate the socket to determine what your concerns are and explain them why it is or isn't normal to have.  The antibiotics should help keep any infection done while your body heals.  If the symptoms worsen or don't improve, I would definitely be concerned as to whats going on.
