Rct

Hello!
Patient presented last week with pain and deep caries perforating the pulp, proceeded to Rct, cleaned and shaped the canal, upper 5, and placed calcium hydroxide for 7 days. She was also on an antibiotic course (amoxicillin/clavulanic acid). She came with no signs of infection so I proceeded to the final obturation and she rang me a day later saying she is in pain and swollen..is this an indicator of re-treatment?

She had a positive percussion test, so I decided to remove it instead of waiting but I never had a patient with flare up after I finish the RCT so it was q bit stressful for me!

If post op flare out does not resolve after 48 -72 hours, removal of filling material may help resolve clinical symptoms. As long as obturation is optimal, clinical symptoms will resolve, no need to worry. However, reassurance to patient is important.
