Root Canal Numbness - Terrified

Root Canal Numbness - Terrified

I had a root canal about 5 days ago. For a couple of days after, I felt fine--a little bit of pain was all. Yesterday, the pain ramped up with a vengeance and now my lower lip and chin are numb. (There is no swelling or visible signs of infection that I can see.) Is this sort of thing normal after a root canal? I plan on seeing my dentist again, but they won't open again until tomorrow and in the meantime, I'm sitting here worried that the numbness will become permanent if I wait until then. (I can't afford an ER visit, and what could they do for me anyways?.) Does anyone here have any advice?

Thanks!

Seeing a neurologist or orofcial pain specialist is advised. Early intervention of pharmacologic management may help recover nerve injury caused by anesthesia or dental issues.
