Root canal or Extraction

I broke a tooth and I have a little pain with it, my options are root canal or extraction. If I get the root canal do I have to get a crown.Does not the root canal destroy the nerves thereby rendering the tooth dead and eventually it will break causing you to get the extraction anyway. For it is alot more expensive to get the root canal and crown than having the tooth extracted.

I agree with Mary97.  You should always try to save the tooth.  Mot people assume as you that it would be cheaper to extract the tooth.  But with this there are a whole other set of problems. If taken care of a crowned tooth can last you the rest of your life.   Not knowing the full extent of your problem I would certainly check with your Dentist and have them break down the cost.  You may need the tooth later for a bridge if you loose other teeth and get him/her to explain the complications of pulling  a tooth.

You should try and save the tooth.  It will be worth the money.  But I would go with your dentists suggested treatment or get  a second opinion.  Dental Schools give quality treatment for less money.
