Root canal still hurts

I had a root canal 12 months ago and from day 1 it hurt. The dentist redid the root canal 3 more times, he couldn't see a crack on the x-ray and is totally baffled. I had a temp put on and he sent me to an endodontist. I didn't touch the tooth, only looked at the xrays. He asked if it hurt when I ate, it doesn't only when I touch it and it throbs. He told me not to touch it...end of story...unfortunately he is the only endo on my insurance...I was so mad at him. The dentist seated my crown permanently and now my gland in my neck at that side is swollen...any ideas?

could be a root fracture. they dont show up on xrays a lot of the time. root fractures are considered fatal. the only solution is extraction. i have a tooth that has this problem. its been 6 years. its always a little painful and sensitive to cold/heat. dentist keeps checking it for infection but as long as there is none i am keeping it since i cant afford an implant. eventually it will have to go.
