RootCanal, Crown and now extraction

RootCanal, Crown and now extraction

About 15yrs ago I had a root canal, and a gold crown on a molar.  I went to the dentist for pain on upper tooth and he recommended a root canal and crown for that tooth and an extraction of the crowned molar below it that had a root canal. It is not causing me a problem except the receding gum line in front exposing a root.  My previous dentist put a white filling over it but it has since broke off. I ask dentist why the extraction and he said the bite of the crown was indented. If I extract it, then I would have to do an implant to eat on that side of the mouth. Another option is a partial but I have these large bones in my lower jaw that will need carved down before I could where dentures. Is there another reason that tooth should be extracted? It sounds like it is elective and not necessary.  What do you think?

Hi,
What you are describing does not sound like you need to have this tooth removed. I think you need to have your bite evaluated and then address the other issues. Let's look at this from a different perspective and let's not be so fast to jump the gun and start treating. What is causing this recession of your gums? What is causing a filling to pop out? So now if you remove this tooth, you have not solved the puzzle. The big question is what is causing all this damage, let's take that away first, then we can go ahead and treat the damage. If you remove this tooth now, then you are opening up a can of worms, and a domino effect of problems because the problem will just get bigger and bigger. Do yourself a favor and get a second opinion from a well trained dentist. I will provide you with two links below, go ahead and read over them and get a second opinion before jumping into something that you may not get the right results from it. http://www.top3dentists.com/pages/prosthodontal
