SEVERE gum and tooth pain, 2 RCTs and antibiotics over 3 months

I went to the dentist in June for severe pain around teeth 2 and 3.  I was told I needed an RCT on #2.  That was performed and the pain became worse.  Had #2 re-treated and still worse.  My dentist then told me I had some decay under the crown on #3 and maybe it had gotten into the tooth (had an RCT 6+years ago).  Before my appt. to have that done my gums surrounding those teeth swelled up and began pusing.  I had the treatment on #3 and the pain got even worse.  The gums are still infected as they are extremely sore and have a bad odor.  The pain has now spread through my face up into my eye and into my ear.  Sometimes the pain is so intense that I cannot even touch my hair.  I have taken Erythromycin 2x, Clindamycin 3x and Biaxin.  Nothing will cure the infection.  I have seen 5 dentists and 2 endodontists and no one knows what to do for me.  They essentially tell me I have an infection, presecribe some medication and push me out the door.  I am at a loss as to what to do, but I can no longer continue with this pain.  It has gotten to the point where somedays I just don't want to be alive anymmore.  Please tell me what to do!

The only thing I could suggest is that you either see a periodontist or go to a dental school in your area. The third possibility is to see a oral pathologist or an oral surgeon. The former is usually associated with a teaching hospital.

If you have swelling on the outside of your face and up into your eye, you need immediate treatment.  If you are talking about pain only, then there are a few other things that it could be.  Your problem sounds more peridontal related than endo related.  I would see a periodontist.  You might also have a fracture of the tooth which is difficult to diagnose and if it's a vertical fracture, the tooth has to be pulled.
