Severe Tooth pain intermittent

I have odd issue.I have composite fillings in D30.I had those done over an yr ago.The problem started a week ago,I flossed the teeth will filling a bit hard and it did bleed. After that I started feeling sensitivity to  hot and cold. Now it has come to a point where after eating/drinking food liguids,I get pain which lasts for 45-60 s,stops and reoccurs. My dentist think I have gingivitis and asked deep cleaning.I remember they placed a cotton swab soaked in alchohol and the tooth immediately reacted painfully to it.
Any suggestions. For last 3-5 days I keep on getting pain,it subsides and comes back.I tried sensodyne, mouthwash etc,not much relief.

They took bitewing X rays.It showed nothing major. Also recently the pain has increased manifold.Keeps occurring several times.Pains last for 15-20 mins, stops and reoccurs.

Did they take a radiograph of the tooth to make sure that you do not need a root canal?
