Smell and pain coming from filling

by leahnicole71, Jul 25, 2008 03:52PM
I have had a foul smell and bad breath for the last 3years and when flossing the other day just happened to notice that when I pull the floss out between these two teeth there is a that Smell again. The same smell taht gives me bad breath everyday and makes it hard for me to talk to people with out having a piece of gum in my mouth.
Also notice that some of the silver (thats what color the filling is) comes off on my floss. and sometimes I get a light throbbing pain with that tooth, or the one in front of it. one of those.
What could this be?
Maybe it's rotten under the filling and it needs to be redone?
I would love to clear up this smelly problem.
Thank you for all your help! :)

Yes, it definitely sounds like there is an issue to be resolved in that area.  Its possible that you may have alot of tartar/plaque buildup in the area that results in bad breath.  It may also be the filling.  If you have a crack/leak in the filling, there could be a cavity that bacteria is growing in and producing bad odors.  It could also be both.

I would recommend seeing a dentist to see whats causing the problem and to see what the proper treatment should be.

also, the floss seems to get stuck when I got by this tooth with the filling. it starts on the top edge of my tooth and then goes down half way on my tooth.
