Hi Doc,
Recently i have noticed a patchAllergy testing Skin color - patchy at the back of my tongueTongue tie that is smooth with no papillae covering it. also the rest of my tongueTongue tie has a thin white coat. i am positive this white coat is not thrush as it doesnt come of ( it seems the papillae are white) .
Anyways while looking on the internet i noticed the a pic of MEDIAN RHOMBOID GLOSSITIS looked remarkabley similar to what is on my tonge, although on further reading i noticed that this condition is usually caused by chronic candidiasisThrush Vaginal yeast infection which to my recollection i have never had ! so my question to you is what could have caused this on my tongueTongue tie? is it any thing to worry about? and could it possibly be anything other that median rhomboid glossitis?
Clinical presentation of median rhomboid glossitis is quite characteristic. There is generally no need of biopsy to establish a histopathologic diagnosis. Since the lesion is aymptomatic and no known report of malignant transformation, management is generally aimed at reduction of predisposing factors, which are cigarette smoking, inhalation of steroid, and denture wearing. Finally, the lesion is strongly associated with candida albicans. If predispoing factors can not be identified, topical antifungal therapy may be administered to eliminate the lesion.
