Sore Gums

I take extremely good care of my teeth so I was surprised when I discovered that the top right side of my gums and my bottom right side of my gums (exact spot), appear to be irritated and sore.  I went to bed knowing that the bottom was irritated, but I thought it might just be a canker sore, and when I woke up, the top was irritated too.  Any ideas of why this happened or what it could be a sign of?

Thank you in advance!

How often do you get canker sores?  And its a canker sore, not a cold sore right?

Hi Dr. Tsang,

I brush twice a day and floss every single night (never skip a night of flossing:)).  Last check-up was in February and I go back on Sept. 12th.  I get a lot of canker sores, but the redness looked different than a cankers sore.  It is slowly healing but wanted to make sure it wasn't something I needed to be immediately alarmed about.

Thank you.

Did you try to floss and brush the area?  When was your last dental visit and check up?  Was there a triggering event that might have started it?
