Stinging Sores on tongue and white discoloration

For the past 4 days my tongue has been stinging with these tiny red sores on the top of it.  it is difficult to eat since the stinging is so persistent.  my tongue also has a whit e discoloration.  after reading some of this site i assume or hope it is from doing alot of drinikng alchohol and smoking cigarrettes since i have been doing alot of partying this summer.  is there anything i can do to remedy this?  i have been drinking a ton of water the past few days since that is the only thing that soothes the pain.

By your description, I would guess its geographic tongue (migratory glossitis, erythema migrans).  Does the white and red patches/discolorations move or change locations?  Its possible that you may have had those patches and they move around all the time.  Generally its symptom free so people never notice but sometimes there is pain or a burning sensation associated with it.  It is usually treated with topical pain medication or steroids.

I would recommend seeing a dentist for a proper diagnosis or referral.
