Swollen Cheek

by Kcroc28, Jun 30, 2009 12:58PM
Hi.  I woke up this morning and my right cheek was really swollen.  It looks like I received cosmetic surgery there.  The swollen cheek is tender and a bit pain full.  It is more painful and swollen near my top side teeth (near the 2nd or 3rd molar) -which I recently broke, about three months ago.  I noticed my tongue was a bit yellow too.  Never seen that.  I have a dental appointment tomorrow.  Caan the swollen cheek be from the broken molar?  This molar lost its filling first, then after putting temp. dental filling in it, it chipped and broke.

Thank you.

Its possible that a broken filling could leak and allow bacteria to enter the tooth.  The bacteria can travel down into the jawbone area and infect the gums through that route.  If thats the case, its possible to get swelling.  We call it a dental abscess.  Hopefully your dentist fixed everything up and you're feeling better.
