Swollen gum abcessed tooth

I have a abcess under my tooth that needs to be removed.  Saw the surgeon today.  Cheek is a little swollen along with my gland.  However I have been having some numbness/tightness on face on the same side.  Is this because of the abcess/infection.  My surgeon said yes to the gland area but the numbness doesn't have anything to do with it.  Does anyone else have any input that might help me.  This is tooth 31.  Will this cause numbness/tingling feeling on my right side of my face.  Thank you for any input.

Sounds like the antibiotics are starting to work.  The swelling will continue to go down but it may take some time for all that pressure to be relieved.  If extraction is recommended, then once its out, the healing will speed up faster.  A root canal may be needed instead.

Thank you...if my memory service me correctly this tooth had a root canal atleast 10 plus years ago and has a crown.  They are extracting the tooth on Thursday so hopefully things will get better after it is removed.

Thank you for responding.  I have not had the tooth extracted yet.  The feeling is more like a tightening  weird feeling then actually being numb.  The numbness/tightening runs from my jaw to the pressure in the ear, up to the temple, cheek and to the bridge of the nose.  Every once in a while my eye will twitch from it.  I had 2 doses of augmentin yesterday to help clear the infection.  And the soft tissue of the gum that was really swollen has seemed like it went down a little.

Its hard to say initially.  When was the extraction done?  Where is the numbness?  There may be some sensation of pressure due to the swelling and if that's the case, it should go away gradually as the swelling goes down.
