Swollen lip and internal mouth sores

My 6-year old niece had dental work a few days ago.  She was put in a twilight state so clamps were used to keep her bottom lip open.  Her lip has now been swollen for days and when you pull her lip down, she has white lesions and sores inside.  The dentist said with ice and ibuprofen everything would return to normal in 2 days.  It's been 4 and we see no signs of improvement.  Does this warrant an emergency room trip?  Possible infection?  Or is this normal.  Please help!

I think these sores will take 7 to 10 days to heal. There are steriod ointments that can be applied which will alleviate the discomfort but these are usually precription items. If your neice is in a great deal of discomfort a call to the dentist is necessary. She should stay away from anything that is acidic.
