Swollen sore lymph nodes and pain after Root Canal

In Sept. I had a a crown put on a dental implant on an upper left molar. When the novacaine wore off I was in pain. The tooth behind had a crown but no root canal. I thought it was the crown on the dental implant that was causing me pain.
After a few weeks of suffering I went back to the dentist. To make a long story short, he took the permanent crown off the implant but I was still in pain. He finally sent me to an Oral Surgeon for a root canal on the molar behind the implant because I had calcified roots.
The first procedure was right before Thanksgiving. He did a root canal through the existing crown. I was put on Penicillian, Ibuprofen 800 mg, and Percoset. But I was still in pain.
On Dec. 1, I went back to the Oral Surgeon. He worked on the root canal for a couple more hours and put in another temporary filling. Instead of Penicillian he prescribed Clindamycin 300 mg. Unfortunately, after the novacaine wore off I was still in pain!!! After a couple of weeks the pain finally subsided.
I went back on Jan. 3 to have the permanent filling put in. It took a couple more hours. I got sick at one point because of the disinfectant solution and started vomiting.
I am still having in pain and have swollen sore lymph nodes! I was prescribed the same meds as I had in Dec. I can't take the Percoset because it was causing stomach pain.
A few days ago I called the Oral Surgeon. He was very surprised. He asked if hot or cold bother it. They don't. I told him putting pressure on the tooth relieved some of the pain. He said the tooth may be cracked!!! Shouldn't he have known this already?
He called me in another RX Clindamycin 300mg and said he would call back in a few days. I am really upset as this procedure maxed out my dental insurance for the year and I am still in pain!!! Not to mention I need a crown on another tooth and am scheduled to have it done in Feb. at my regular dentist. I will have to pay out of pocket for it.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately there's not always a way of finding out if a tooth is cracked or not.  Cracks don't show up on x-rays most of the time so its hard to determine where the pain is coming from if its a crack or not, especially if there's a crown on there already.  They may need to either put a new crown on the cracked tooth or remove the tooth all together.  You can always seek a second opinion from an endodontist (root canal specialist).  I don't think you went to an oral surgeon as they usually remove wisdom teeth, etc and usually don't do root canals.
