Swollen tongue after alcohol consumption

I've been having this problem for a couple months now. On the morning of the night of drinking my tongue is swollen to the point, what feels like, twice the normal size. It's really uncomfortable and I can't talk normally.
I've been looking around on the web but couldn't find any answers to this. Can anyone explain why this happens, and how I can prevent it?
p.s
anight of drinking usually means I'm smoking a lot more cigarettes than I normally would.

There is a strong possibility that you are allergic to alcohol. Good idea to get it checked out.
