TN

by Evie79, Sep 01, 2008 03:09PM
Why do most of the suffers of TN say it is a quick sharp pain.  Mine started out that way, but quit for 6 weeks.(without meds).

After the 6 weeks it came back so bad that it felt like a branding iron on the side of my face and forehead.
This pain would last for at least 1/2 hour, I finaly found that sucking on an ice cube would calm it down.
Also, a lot of the pain would come about 4:00 AM I thought TN didnt usually hit at night.

Do I have true TN or could it be something else.
Thanks.

I know that my problem sounds like TN, I thought maybe someone had a similar problem that turned out to be dental or TMJ, since mine doesn't seem exactly like TN.   OH well, I was just hoping for any help I could get.  The pain does start in the jaw area.
Thanks, Evie79.

It may not be the textbook typical TN (cold usually hurts,) although typical TN does come and go like you describe.  It can bother you at night if you rub against a trigger spot.  Sometimes the sharp pains are followed by a lesser ache that can last a while.

You could have some atypical or other form of TN.

A dentist should be able to rule out TMJ.

Best of luck.
