Temporary Crown

Temporary Crown

I have just had a tooth prepared for a crown but the dentist refused to fit a temporary crown to cover the area - this left me in a mess as it was really sensitive.  I went back to dentist and told him, and asked him if he would fit a temp crown - he refused again, and said I should use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth and he painted the 'stump' with something to de-sensitise the area.  I have never heard of anyone being left with a tooth exposed like this  (for over a week !)  -   would like to hear if anyone else has been faced with this problem as it doesn't seem right to me ?

Does he give a reason for his actions?  The temporary crown is to protect what tooth is left until the perm. crown can be completed.  I've never heard of this as well.  I would be tempted to seek another dentist.

He mumbled something about he couldn't put a temp crown on  because the tooth had previously been filled and could only put a temporary crown a previously 'sound' tooth - which sounded nonsense to me as why would a 'sound' tooth require a crown !!    My old dentist has retired - this company has taken over - I don't like the new guy at all (for obvious reasons), when my current treatment is finished and paid for (I have some more treatment to come)  I will pay the bill - and try hard to find another dentist.  He also told me to rub the 'stump' with Sensodine toothpaste when I went to bed - I think thats absolute rubbish - I couldn't go anywhere near the tooth with neat toothpaste - let alone leave it on all night.  It seems these days dentists can get away with anything because its so hard to get an NHS dentist they know they can do as they want and you daredn't complain.

This is totally ridiculous!  I have been in the dental profession for over tweleve years and not once have I ever ran into this.  You are paying for a temporary crown.  It is included in the crown fee.  The tooth is sensitive and the dentisit need to do something about the sensitivity that you are having.  I would seek another office!!

I had RCT yesterday and the dentist only put temporary fillings in both the RCT teeth. He said he would put the posts in on the next visit and to extrmemly careful with these two teeth....today one of the RCT teeth is so sensitive I can't even close my mouth due to the pain when something touches that particular tooth. Who was I to question this I had no clue.....
