Throbbing tooth still crown & root canal were done

by MISSTRESMM, Jul 15, 2009 02:38PM
3 months ago I had a root canal performed by an endodontist my tooth had 4 canals.  He drilled through my exsisting crown and put a temporary filling in.  I followed up with My dentist and he wanted me to spend $1500 for a new crown and build up I didnt have the money so I postponned it.  Now my tooth is still throbbing and the crown is sensitive when I push it side to side no other tooth near it is like this.  The endodontist said the temporary filling only lasts 6 weeks but its intact and said the dentist should put a filling in if the crown is good.  How can I have pain when the nerves are dead?

Have you been back to the endodontist since he finished your root canal?

If the temporary filling was left in place for several months, it can begin to leak.  When that happens, the bacteria can possible begin to form another cavity inside the tooth or possibly re-infect the root canal, travel down to the jawbone through the root canal and cause an infection there, resulting in pain.  This would require what we call a re-treat, which is to do the root canal over again.  Then you would need to fill it or replace the crown to prevent another re-infection.
