Only a cold compress should be used.
A hot compress will draw the infection out, thus making the pain worse.
Painkillers that he would normally take for a headache are also ok to take.

Hope this helps

Hi...to reduce pain and swelling you can used an ice pack wrapped in a towel, and take Tyleno, Advil or Motrin for the pain.
