Tooth badly cracked

by sabak, Nov 27, 2007 12:00AM
Hello, two months ago my dentist suggested that I do root canal on #13 and now that tooth got cracked yesteday. So, today I saw my dentist and she said she might not be able to do the root canal now since the tooth is badly cracked and it also had fillings. she said I have 60% chance of keeping the tooth. She will see me again to tomorrow to do the root canal, if possible.  I really don't want to lose my tooth because it will show when I smile. I don't know if I should get a second opinion on this...

There is never anything wrong with getting another opinion.I think 60% are not great odds. There are ways to replace the tooth with excellent cosmetic results. You should be informed of the options before anything is done.

Thanks a lot for your reply.

I went to see my dentist this morning and it was possible to do the root canal.  I have another appointment on Saturday to do the crown process. She said I may need to see gum specialist to cut some gum in order to fit the crown. My dentist is still not 100% certain about the possibility of keeping my tooth...  I will see what happens on Saturday. I am hoping for the best.
