Top of mouth swollen and red

Top of mouth swollen and red

For the last 3 days, the top of my mouth has been extremely sensitive and sore, after I vomitted violently 3 times.  I went to my doctor yesterday, only for him to tell me I had the flu and not strep throat (take tylenol, rest and drink plenty of fluids).  I have had strep multiple times in my life and this is 100 times worse.  The inflamed areas are directly on each side of the roof of my mouth almost in the center (If I run my tongue directly down the center in the arch, directly on each side is where the pain is).  Also, my tongue is sensitive as well, although not unbearable.  It is almost like there are two blisters or swollen glands.  My question is are there salvitory glands on the top of the mouth?  If so, how do these become clogged/infected?  What is my next step?  What is wrong with my mouth??  HELP!!
