Trimming the Tooth

I want to know about the best treatment of my tooth problem, one of my main upper front tooth is about 2 or 2.5 mm longer than its counter part,,, it do not look so good in pictures and when i smile ,,,, in my own thinking if this one tooth is trimmed about 2 or 2.5 mm from its end it can make its looks much better,,,
BUT i have heard that trimming tooth like this can expose its roots and one can start feeling COLD or HOt while drinking eating,
kindly guide me whats best treatment/solution of my this Cosmetic Dentistry problem,

2-2.5 mm of incisal grinding may expose dentin, which may be sensitive to cold stimulus. However, if such grinding can meet your cosmetic demand, it's worth a try.
