Two recent crowns,,,both sensitive

by ATH1226, Mar 13, 2009 06:36PM
I had two crowns performed approx. five months ago.  Nothing really sensitive until recently, about one month ago.  Both crowns located upper right, last two.  Went to my doctor and he suggested I purchased this $13.00 tooth sensitive paste to try for a while.  After about two weeks, still sensitive especially to cold.  I try as best I can to avoid letting cold get to those teeth.  As I run my fingernail gently around the gum line on both crowns, it is sensitive.  My question is that if both crowns are sensitive, would that possibly rule out symptoms that could lead to both root canals.  Just do not seem like both roots systems would have gone bad at the same time.  Any opinions as to what is causing this and possibly how long this could last before being resolved.  Thanks to anyone

Sometimes something simple like cleaning the area out like a routine dental cleaning can help relieve the problem.  There may be some excess cement around the crown that could be causing the problem.

If the cavities were deep, its possible they were infected and now are showing signs of problems.  There are several possibilities and a referral to a root canal specialist may not be a bad idea also to rule out the root canal system.
