Ulcer on Soft Palate Near Tonsil

by Ebomb624, Jul 01, 2005 12:00AM
On the left side of my soft palate I noticed a sore about a week ago. I have been keeping an eye on it and it gradually continues to grow. It is right next to my tonsil and it has one large sore (about 1/2cm in width) that is surrounded by about 4-6 smaller ones (1-2mm in width) that seem to lead to my tonsil, but dont actually touch it. The larger sore is making a shallow hole and is dark in and around it. The smaller ones are on the surface and are lighter in color. There is no pain, but I can feel it when I breath, it feels cold to the touch. One more thing I noticed is that on each side of my tongue, near the base where it comes in contact with my tonsils, there is a white film. The rest of my tougue is normal. But I have to wipe it off and it just comes back in about 2 days. Does anyone have any idea what these could be from?

The sores could be herpetic or aphthous in nature or could be some sort of infection.  To diagnose, it is best to have an examination  by a dentist or oral surgeon. Then a treatment plan can be formulated.
