Why is my cheek so sowllen?

by inPainn, Jun 01, 2009 12:13AM
So I have had braces for five years, and I have some major injuries in my inner cheek and on my lip and tongue from major chewing mouth sucking on mouth and clenching my teeth. My outside of my cheek is bruising and almost swollen to the size where look like I had my wisdom teeth taken out. I have never seen my mouth do this before and I have never seen it on any one else. So my question is do i have an infection of some sort? Or is it a lot of damaged tissue? What is the name? and how long is it going to stay.

Acute onset swelling is commonly associated with infection or allergy. However, your descriptions appear to suggest cheek muscle hypertrophy, which is commonly associated with clenching or bruxism.
