Why is my touge still numb

I went to the dentist at 10 this morning and got a deep cleaning. they used gas then they gave me novican. my face was done being numb by 2 but my touge is still numb and its 9pm now. plus my jaw is killing me.

Keep an eye on the tongue for a bit longer.  Usually it wears off in a few hours.  Has it improved at all?

Thank you so much for your reponse. You asked is it getting better? No, in fact I think it sometimes seems worse. For instance as the day goes on by the evening my toungue hurts. I can not taste anything anymore.
My lower jaw on the outside has very little feeling. The gums on my lowerI jaw just seem raw...I have noticed a difference in my speech. I have almost choked numerous times by trying to chew on that side and not being able to work the food correctly not counting all the bites...I was very upset to read 6 months but even more upset with the word permanent. I cant imagine this going on forever. I do think I am getting used to it, not that it is getting any better. Thank you again
