Wierd taste always in my mouth

by lyla77, Aug 14, 2005 12:00AM
There has been this taste in my mouth, moreso the back by my throat for about a week now. No matter how many times I brush my teeth or use mouthwash it's still there. When I eat some foods cover it up while I'm chewing them but most heighten it. It's a really disgusting taste it's kind of like Arby's Sauce except I love arby's sauce this is just a really gross old form or something. Gum does cover it up but thats about the only thing. I don't know why it's there I was in the hospital recently but this happened a month after I had been released.

I would suggest you try brushing your tongue first. If this is not successful in removing the odor either see your dentist or an oral surgeon. You might also consider seeing an oral pathologist. These doctors are usually associated with a teaching hospital.

well maybe u should try other mouthwash....choose the most effective....there are a lot of cleanser out there that could help u like steradent, efferdent and polident...have u heard any of this cleaner?

no I havent heard of them. I use listerine mouthwash right now. I do brush my tongue but afterwards not before I will try that. I've noticed some other things too like when I walk into a hot room or when someone is smoking I taste it the most. Meat provokes it a lot too along with apple juice.

Sour mouth(faulty taste) or white coating in the back of your tongue is a collection of sulfer compounds which is typically a direct result from a dry mouth and or a low saliva secretion rate which allows the bacteria that makes those smelly fumes to develop at a rapid pace. Remember that saliva has oxygen and it's this oxygen that destroys the bacteria. That's why if you have a normal salival secretion rate the oxygen contained in the saliva is sufficient and takes control of the bacteria.

So as long as you have little saliva or no saliva at all your going to have bad breath no matter how many times you brush your teeth. And don't go out and by a mouth rinse that contains alcohol because as you all know alcohol has a drying affect and you know what the means: More bad breath!

My suggestion: Try Therabreath. This product is amazing at treating bad breath, and sour bitter tastes, because it contains oxygen not alcohol! Take my word and by this product, take it as indicated and you should be good to go.

Lyla77:

I'm not a dental expert or anything, but what I do know is that the protein in meat provokes the bacteria to make more sulpher compounds. Same goes with the sugar in fruit juices. The bacteria thrives in proteins and sugars and if you don't have enough saliva to combat the bacteria your issues with certain foods is going to continue.
