Wisdom teeth holes

Wisdom teeth holes

Hello.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth extracted about one week ago.  I've been rinsing my mouth as the surgeon directed.  I noticed, within the last couple of days, that as I rinse, some of the water from my mouth goes through the hole left by the removed tooth.   The water passes through the hole and leaks out of my nose.

Is this a normal result of such a surgery?  Will this hole ever seal so that this ceases?

Thanks.

The hole should seal on its own.  It'll take time for the tissue (gums) to grow over the hole and then bone will eventually fill in.

But the water from your mouth should not leak out of your nose.  There shouldn't be a connection from your mouth to your nose through the wisdom tooth socket area.  I would recommend going back to your dentist/surgeon to get it evaluated.  It may be going through your sinus and out your nose, in which case you may get a sinus infection.  Its best to get it closed up.
