abscess & swollen check

Hello,

I have an abscess that I have been told was a root canal that needs retreatment (great after spending so much $$ on my crown).  The Dr can't get me in for three weeks, so my regular dentist gave me Clindamycin 300MG 3X a day.  I have been taking it for four days.  Since then my check has gone from no swelling to so swollen I can hardly open my mouth.  The pain at the site of the tooth is gone but there is still a lot of pressure above the tooth (#14). What do you think may be going on?  Thanks in advance for your view & ideas.

Tara

The clindamycin may not be working.  You might wanna call your dentist to see/evaluate the swelling because the swelling shouldn't be there.  Anytime there's problems with opening the mouth is a cause of concern cause it means the muscles may be pinched by the abscess.  If you have any problems with breathing or swallowing, I'd strongly recommend going to the ER and switching antibiotics.

So sorry your going through that, i had an abscess(everything from eye to cheek was very swollen) and went to the er, i got a shot of clindamycin and a prescription, its cleared, and i had the root canal retreated, and so far, no complications, good luck! i know its scary 2 think you have 2 wait 3 weeks to have it worked on.

Thank you sooo much the swelling ended up going down (almost completly now).  I am going to have the retreatment done at the end of this month, so hopefully that will be the end of this issue.

I really want to say thanks for your time.
