bite pain and ache after two temp crowns

by moln, Feb 13, 2007 12:00AM
I went in and the dentist said I needed my wisdom tooth pulled and two crowns next to each other.  After this procedure about four months ago I am still living in pain.  I can not bite down on anything on that side of my mouth without pain.  If I sneeze and the teeth touch I am in pain, and more often than not I just living on motrin because of constant pain.   I have been back to the Dr. and she claims that she can see no reason for the pain.  After multiple complaints she is suggesting a root canal.  I am scared to death.  I had no pain in the area before the root canals I just trusted her when she said I needed them.  How do I know if the crown is placed right or if I really need a root canal, and then how do I know that a root canal is going to remove the pain?

If you are in pain then more than likely the nerve of the tooth or teeth in question are involved. from your symptoms it does sound like one or both of the teeth need root canal treatment. If you are not confident in the dentist I would suggest you get another opinion from either another generalist or an endodontist(root canal specialist).

the bite may be off, there may be a periodontal problem, there may be inflammation of the pulp.... i would not do anything if you are not comfortable with tthe dentist-- and it seems you are not. I personally would not have root canal treatment unless i had a really good idea as to why the teeth hurt. it may be a good idea to get another opinion.
